Before you speak, T.H.I.N.K.:
- Is it TRUE?
- Is it HELPFUL?
- Is it INSPIRING?
- Is It NECESSARY?
- Is It KIND?
Words have the power to touch your heart, evoke absolute joy, or motivate you into action. There are words of encouragement, of sympathy, of love and admiration. Carefully chosen words can offer strength, define your faith, or bring your imagination to life. Words have the ability to comfort, inspire and nourish your soul.
On the flip side, words can be used to significantly cause harm. Words will not cause physical damage but they can create a crippling effect on your heart and damage your psychological well-being. Pain from words can leave scars on minds and hearts that are vulnerable. These emotional wounds take much longer to heal than physical ones.
Therefore, be mindful of your words, choose them with care and respect. Take time to think about how your body language, voice intonation, and word choice work together in communicating a message whether it be to a friend, an enemy, a coworker, a neighbor, your child, your spouse, or an acquaintance.
Kindness is sometimes shown by NOT saying anything at all.
